January 12th, 2025: The Lord is Majestic | Psalm 93

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, (Isaiah 46:9).

When you think of majestic, what comes to mind? Do you picture tall, breath-taking mountain ranges or impressive eagles flying high in a clear blue sky? Think bigger! The word majestic comes from the Latin word majestatem, and means greatness, dignity, honor, and excellence. Our God is Majestic! The lesson today asks that we all look more closely at this aspect of God. King David repeatedly wrote in the Psalms that God inspires reverence and adoration. He is worthy.  Why? Let’s dig in!

The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

Do you know that scripture uses many names for God? Each gives us a glimpse into many aspects and attributes of our King. For this song, (Psalm 93), David writes that He is the “I AM”.  Remember this name? When Moses asked who shall I say sent me? God answered I AM that I AM. This name is so holy, that the children of Israel refuse to say it outloud. They write it without vowels so they cannot say it, YHWH. This name and descriptor for God has been likened to the very breaths that we take. In every breath in YH and every breath out WH.

We do not exist without God or the breath that was first breathed into Adam at creation. This name is also translated into Jehovah (Yahweh). It is found in scripture over 6,700 times. It means Lord, the Lord God, and the one who always has been. You can have a heavenly relationship with the Lord of all existance. Let Him be more to you than just God Almighty. existenceKnow him personally as Jehovah Yahweh. And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them. (Exodus 6:3): God showed himself to Abraham arrayed in the splendor that Abraham could handle. He is dressed fit for a King: in strength, honor, dignity, and majesty.

Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

God’s throne is seen and described many times within the Bible. It is the ultimate seat of authority, justice, righteousness, and power. Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; (Hebrews 8:1).

Around the throne of God are angelic beings praising and worshiping. Sights that Paul said could not be written.  A throne even David couldn’t understand in his attempt to “build” a house for God. Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? (Isaiah 66:1).

It is impossible to stretch our earthly brain to understand such a throne. It is pure. It is Holy. It is magnificent. From it proceeds the fountain of grace and eternal life. And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Revelation 22:1). God’s throne always has been and always will be. Don’t bring God down to our level. He is regal.  He is so much more than anything we can imagine! His throne has been established of old and will remain throughout eternity.

The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

The attacks from scoffers will continue until the judgment. They will be working desperately to try to dethrone and discredit God. They make a lot of noise with the sound of their voices and the turmoil they stir up. They cause a lot of fear and doubt to those around who hear them. In the end, however, the creation has no authority over the creator. They may rise up, but God is mightier.  Though they try hard, they have no affect on the majestic King that is our God.

They will rise up and fall like waters are prone to do, yet God will continue to be God.  He is mightier than the noise. Does the noise sometimes overwhelm you?  It can - but only if you let it.  He is more powerful than waves, noise, fears, and doubts. He is in control. Is He your God?  We, as believers, are more than safe in His hands. When feeling beaten and battered by the waves of life, remember, For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.(Romans 8:18)

Prepare to Praise as we, servants both small and great, see the Great King, arrive. He will be right on time!  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords. (Revelation 19: 11-16).

Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.

God has no equal and no rival. God is subject to no one else. He is our creator and deserving of our praise and honor. Exalted high and lifted up, sovereign, grand, glorious, full of beauty and truth. He has no beginning; He has no end. Do you know Him as Jehovah? He is the Lord of all things. Prepare, His Majesty is coming. To borrow a phrase, if you are deciding what unseen things to believe in, choose wisely. Will it be faith or fear? God’s people know His name. More importantly, God knows their names.  Every last one of them! There is no one higher in authority, majesty, power, or more worthy of honor. He is the King of it all. Get ready to meet your King.
